Chronic Kidney Disease

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) means that the kidneys are not working as well as would be expected. Various conditions can cause this including high blood pressure and diabetes. Severity can vary but most cases are mild or moderate, occur in older people and do not cause symptoms.
We want to reassure you that although the phrase “chronic kidney disease” might sound worrying, for most people this is just a slight reduction in their kidney function as they age. This is not something of immediate harm to you, but is something we like to keep an eye on.
As part of your annual monitoring you will be invited to book a cholesterol blood test with a Phlebotomist.
It is also recommended that patients take a statin if you do not already take one. If you are not already on this medication you will be contacted in order to make an appointment with one of our Clinical Pharmacists.
Patients with CKD are eligible to receive a flu vaccination annually during Influenza Vaccination Season. We will contact you when we start to accept bookings for this.
