Additional Roles Statement

Clinical governance and patient safety is always at the heart of the care we provide by all of the team at Trinity. We are a Training Practice and support the training of Medical Students, Foundation Year Junior Doctors and Specialist GP Trainees. We’re lucky to have a great team of GPs all interested in training, two of whom have the Post Graduate Certificate in Medical Education and two who also teach at Brighton & Sussex Medical School. Each of our “additional roles” (Paramedics, Physician Associates (PA’s) , Advance Nurse Practitioners (ANP’s) and First Contract Practitioners (FCP’s) have a named Clinical Supervisor every session they work. Their clinics are discussed and reviewed with the supervisors. We have appropriate triaging systems in place to ensure they only see patients who have conditions that are appropriate for their individual skill sets and competencies.

It is entirely appropriate that patients see the most appropriate healthcare professional for their clinical need and this may not always be a GP. A larger practice team is designed to manage the very busy workload and the range of health needs that people have. A larger team means that GP’s have more time to treat those with chronic and more complex health needs.
