Flu Season 2024
NHS England Flu Update Published December 5th 2024: (Covid information at the bottom of this page)
NHS fears of a potential ‘quad-demic’ are rising with a 350% increase in flu cases and an 86% rise in norovirus cases in hospital compared to same week last year – alongside concerns about rising COVID-19 and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV)c levels in hospitals.
New weekly figures published today for the first time this year, show the NHS is going into winter under more pressure than ever before with an average of 1,099 people in hospital with flu every day last week compared to 243 in the same week last year –
the highest number of cases heading into winter for at least three years.
You can still book in for your seasonal flu vaccine here at Trinity Medical Centre if you are aged between 18 – 64 and in one of our eligible cohorts. If you are 65 or over, you should still be able to get your vaccine at a local pharmacy.
In the UK, flu season is typically from December to March, but the exact dates depend on the weather:
- When it starts: The flu season usually starts in October.
- When it peaks: The flu season typically peaks in January and February.
- When it ends: The flu season usually ends in March, but the virus can still travel in warmer temperatures, so you could catch it as late as May
